Have a hole or three in your favorite pair of jeans? You're in luck and right on trend this season, because ripped, nicked and distressed jeans have overshadowed last summer's boyfriend style as the denim du jour.
These aren't just ratty throwaways being recycled as stylish. The trend was sparked when slashed and distressed denim -- paired with a boxy, military-style jacket and killer sandals, studded and strappy -- sashayed down the Balmain spring '09 runway.
Balmain's worn denim has created a fashion sensation. Pair the jeans with a T-shirt or cropped jacket and sexy sandals for the look du jour.

Through June 15, take it to one of several drop-off locations collecting used denim that will be made into UltraTouch cotton insulation donated to Habitat for Humanity. It takes almost 500 pairs of recycled blue jeans to insulate one average-size U.S. house, so they'll take as much as you have.
Drop-off locations are Sapona Green Building Center, 716 S. 17th St.; Tidal Creek Cooperative Market, 5329 Oleander Drive; Cape Fear River Watch, 617 Surry St.; B+O Design Studio, 205 Princess St.; LS3P Associates Ltd., 2528 Independence Blvd., Suite 200; and several schools.

2009 Hot Color Trends Are On Their Way
The leading international nonprofit association, Color Marketing Group (CMG), has been correctly predicting color trends for more then 45 years and this year is no different.
Color Marketing Group is saying that purple is the hot fashion color for this year and is the “mush have” color for 2009.
Purple has gained a lot of attention since last fall. The grayed-out violets will work very well as an accent or as a neutral.
Blues are in. For this year and more years to come, just about any blue you choose will be a suitable color for the 2009 trend.
Yellow that was the ‘80s vivid and energetic color is back for 2009. Now popular, yellow against gray is an eye opener.
Grays are the new elegance in color that makes a bridge between black, that is to harsh and brown that is not robust enough.
And guess what. CMG is telling us that Mauve is in for 2009. It will serve as a neutral and also work as an accent.
When your closet colors diminish from fashion, finding the perfect match is almost impossible. With the old colors coming back it might be the perfect time to improve on your wardrobe without having to break the bank.

How to Take Care of Designer Denim Jeans
You got a pair of designer jeans that matches your style and body shape you need to make sure you take care of them. Most people don’t realize that to extend the life of your jeans, proper care for the denim is important and will keep them in tip top condition. Clothes are not designed to last forever, but denim in particular gets softer and more form fitting over time. Care of jeans requires patience to get the longest life out of them.
1. To maintain the color of your jeans, wash them inside out.
2. If your jeans have faded and you want to add color, wash them together with a pair of new ones that have never been washed. The excess color from the new pair of jeans will transfer to the old pair in the process of washing.
3. Removing grass stains is very easy by rubbing some alcohol on the grass stains and let it sit for a while. Then wash as usual.
4. Authentic vintage jeans need special care when washing. The older the jeans are the more likely they are to tearing or fading with every wash. Machine washing inside out, in cold water on the delicate cycle would be my choice for washing vintage jeans.
5. Most of the wear and tear to your clothes is done in the dryer. If you are going to use the household dryer, use the low heat setting and dry them to about 80% dry. Use the hang dry method to finish the last 20% of the job. Tip: Fold the wet jeans in half over a hanger, then fold them in half again and then, lay them in the dryer by themselves. Turn the dryer on and the jeans will stay in the folded position.
The gentlest approach for drying is to hang dry. Lay the wet jeans on a flat surface and press with you hand in a horizontal stroke. Now fold the wet jeans in half over a hanger and hang in a ventilated area indoors. Do not dry outdoors, in the sun. The sun rays will damage your jeans.
6. Wash first, and then hem. It’s not uncommon to see jeans shrink after a wash so when ever possible, wash your designer denim jeans before hemming. Let the jeans can go through the initial shrinkage process. By taking off less than necessary when hemming will help in future shrinkage.
